Explore and Draw: Paper sculptures

This session was introduced by Alison Cockcroft.

We encouraged the children to experiment with drawing different textures with the charcoal, conte crayons and pencils.

We posed the question: “How can we get the feeling of the roughness of the bark… the softness of a feather?”

After a break in nature to explore and observe the natural world, we then tried to turn our paper drawings into sculptures by rolling the paper, building with it and sticking bits together and drawing on it.

The children invented many different stories alongside their sculptures.

Listening to children while they work is fascinating. Their imaginations bubble up with stories around their creations.
