About
In the past, as a sculptor, my thinking has always been three dimensional.
I was especially interested in building work from natural materials that decomposed back into the land.
However my main practice is currently drawing and printmaking.
Within printmaking, my interests lie with lithography and monoprinting.
When I was younger I worked for many years in steel, forging and welding, building sculptures, gates, candle brackets and other useful items. Then I returned to ceramics which had been an early love of mine, making pots, initially at the Camden Arts Centre under the wonderful tutorage of Mo Abdullah.
Alongside and nourishing me, for many years, has been a practice of the Chinese exercise system of Chi Gong, taught by my wonderful late teacher Dr Shen Hongxun. There is, for me, a similarity between drawing and doing the physical movements of Chi Gong. There is a sense of joy and of stretching boundaries.
I have worked creatively with children in many settings from schools to adventure playgrounds, to private art classes. Many of these settings have involved working with children with learning difficulties.
I am also currently an independent visitor for a child in foster care. My recent training with the Mindfulness in Schools Project has been an inspiration and a useful tool to bring to children alongside creative work.
I also teach adults both lithography and monoprinting.
